ESTA and… Ready to go!

-2! In two days I will be flying across the Atlantic Ocean en route to New York. But what do you have to know when you travel to the United States of America?

Foreigners who wish to be admitted to the USA need some form of VISA (duh). These can be obtained for many reasons, such as studying or work. However, if like me you’re travelling to the States for leisure – which means with no hidden studying or working agendas – you can generally get in through ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorisation).

ESTA is a US government requirement part of the Visa Waiver Program (VWP), which allows citizens of participating countries to travel to the United States without a visa for stays of 90 days or less, provided they meet all requirements explained on the website linked above.

ESTA collects biographic information and answers to VWP eligibility questions. However ESTA, which costs $14, doesn’t admit you to the United States automatically: it’s up to the USA Custom and Border Protection officers to get you in.

Once you’ve sorted out your travel plans – e.g. booked a plane and secured an address to stay at – you can start applying for ESTA. Note that you don’t need it if you’re arriving by land from Canada or Mexico.

On Friday 5 September I’ll be in the American Customs’ hands… Wish me luck! And since I’ll be travelling for over 10 hours, what better companion than this fashionable accessory to help me relax during my journey? This amazing cushion, by…IMG_6770

…just kidding. NOT a fashion blog.

…scherzavo. Questo NON è un blog di moda.
