Halloween lovers will have the perfect scare fest in San Francisco: between All Hallows’ Eve and the Mexican Day of the Dead, here’s what I did to celebrate in the city.
Walking down the street of US big cities like San Francisco on October 31st is an experience you won’t live in many places.
Crowds of all ages populated the Haight’s thrift and Goodwill stores looking for last-minute costumes; fully dressed up parents would hold their tiny kids’ hands as they trick-or-treated; everyone took extreme care to make their costumes look credible.
On October the 31st I went with my host to El Techo de Lolinda to enjoy wonderful views of Frisco, margaritas and crazy costumes. As Batgirl, meeting a full-on Batman was an occasion that deserved a picture.
The best part of the night though was a party in a hippie commune, an accommodation where you share most everything. The party featured a live jazz band and its own Jesus, that allowed me and my friends to drink his wine.
On Sunday night the Mission District became a Mexican fest for the Dia De Los Muertos. People of all ages, dressed up in traditional Mexican clothes and sporting sugar skulls face-paint, flooded the streets with a parade, dancing and a lot of amazing food.
Be it for Mexican immigrants or for Halloween, San Francisco is the place to be at the end of October. Don’t miss it!

Gli amanti di Halloween si sentiranno a loro agio a San Francisco: tra la festa più macabra dell’anno e il giorno dei morti messicano, ecco come ho passato l’ultimo weekend in questa cittá.
Andare in giro per una cittá americana come SF il 31 Ottobre non é un’esperienza che proverete jn molti altri posti: folle che popolano i negozi dell’usato in cerca di costumi last-minute; genitori mascherati dalla testa ai piedi che portano in giro i loro bambini per fare dolcetto o scherzetto; costumi elaboratissimi.
Il 31 sera io e il mio ospite ci siamo goduti ottimi margarita e viste stupende al Techo di Lolinda. Vestita da Batgirl, ho dovuto farmi una foto con Batman.
Il momento migliore della serata però é stato festeggiare in una comune hippie, una casa dove tutti si dividono qualcosa e la proprietá é solo una parola. Qui una band live di musica jazz accompagnava la serata ed io e il mio ospite abbiamo condiviso il vino con Gesù.
Domenica invece il quartiere Mission é stato invaso da teschi messicani per la parata del Giorno dei Morti, accompagnato da danze, costumi e cibo fantastico.
Che sia per Halloween o per il Giorni dei Morti, San Francisco é il posto giusto per festeggiare a fine ottobre: non mancate!
