Sherlock Holmes Exhibition at the Museum of London

A Museum of London exhibition looks at Sherlock Holmes’s roots with an eye on Victorian London. Whether you’re a fan of the BBC’s Sherlock or a die-hard Conan Doyle reader, this exhibition will certainly shine a new light on the great detective.

In the “Sherlock Holmes: The Man Who Never Lived and Will Never Die” exhibition, London’s first on the detective since 1951, The Museum of London uses early film, photography and paintings plus original Victorian era artefacts to recreate the atmosphere of the detective’s London.IMG_8657Enter the secret door behind a library and you will find yourself in Sherlock Holmes’s world: illustrations drawn by the great Sidney Paget. scenes and posters from the most popular Holmes films and manuscripts will satisfy even the most old-fashioned of fans. IMG_8664
Objects and artworks displayed at the exhibition include Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s 1886 ‘A Study in Scarlet’ notebook, containing the first ever lines of a Sherlock Holmes story, and the Belstaff coat used in the BBC’s Sherlock series with Benedict Cumberbatch. The exhibition also allows to follow Holmes and Watson in their journeys across London through hansom cabs, trains and on foot, showing how much the pair “owned” the city and its streets.

IMG_8658The exhibition, which costs from £9 to £13, is a great opportunity to delve into Sherlock Holmes’s world in a time when the immortal character faces a new wave of success following the airing of the BBC’s show.

Una mostra del Museum of London studia le origini di Sherlock Holmes passando per la Londra vittoriana. Che siate fan dello Sherlock della BBC o lettori di Conan Doyle, questa mostra vi farà di certo scoprire qualcosa di nuovo sul grande detective.

Nella mostra “Sherlock Holmes: The Man Who Never Lived and Will Never Die” , la prima sul grande detective dal 1951, il Museum of London usa riprese, foto e quadri insieme ad artefatti provenienti dall’era vittoriana per riportare il pubblico ai tempi della Londra di Holmes.

Attraversate una porta segreta dietro uno scaffale e vi troverete nel mondo di Sherlock Holmes: le illustrazioni del grande Sidney Paget (il disegnatore che ormai identifichiamo con tutte le immagini del detective), scene e poster dai vari film tratti dai libri di Conan Doyle e vari manoscritti accontenteranno anche i fan più tradizionalisti.

Alla mostra troverete il quaderno dove Sir Arthur Conan Doyle aveva iniziato a scrivere “Uno Studio In Rosso” nel 1886 e il cappotto Belstaff indossato da Benedict Cumberbatch nella serie TV BBC.

La mostra, che costa dalle £9 alle £13, è una fantastica opportunità per scoprire qualcosa in più su Sherlock Holmes in un momento in cui gode di ritrovata fama grazie alla serie TV BBC.
