Learn how to dance like Beyoncé at Frame Shoreditch

A sold-out workshop at Frame Shoreditch taught me and a room packed with girls (and a guy) how to dance like Beyoncé. Sort of.

We all knew Beyoncé was flawless, but no one in London as yet had thought to bring the Queen’s steps to those among us who haven’t been blessed with such talent. With a few simple routines, Frame’s amazing instructor, Cassius, gave us a piece of Bey pretending not to notice how much of a crap dancer everyone in the room really was.IMG_8842

That was part of the fun: we were all so bad at dancing that we thought we might as well just give it a shot and dance like there’s no tomorrow. Cassius made sure to include everyone and to split the packed class in four little groups, so that everyone could have the chance to cringe while watching herself dance in the mirror. And as if we weren’t total dancing trolls, he high-fived each and everyone of us after each dance. https://vine.co/v/Ojv6qWe6Ked/

The whole setting at Frame Shoreditch is really cool: a tiny gym under a railway arch with a bunch of organic and healthy food and drinks to choose from.  IMG_8836 IMG_8833

Starting with a warm-up to the beat of ‘Why Don’t You Love Me’, we then moved on to a power-walk (a.k.a. ‘The Beyoncé walk’) and a few steps with ‘Crazy In Love’. The hardest routine of it all was ‘Run The World’, that required a bit too much coordination for people with my limited skills. We finished the routines with ‘Grown Woman’ to then do our final stretch dancing to the rhythm of ‘Drunk In Love’. https://vine.co/v/Ojvrlbh5n3D/

Sure, there is only one Queen B and I didn’t go out feeling like I was any closer to Beyoncé’s flawlessness. In fact, what the class might have actually taught me is that I am NOT Beyoncé.But Frame Shoreditch came up with the perfect way to beat the January blues: a feel-good, upbeat workout that makes you laugh while you’re doing it and leaves you knackered afterwards. Bum, thighs and abs all work together… Maybe tomorrow I’ll wake up like this? beyonce-flawless-195765_w1000
