Bellini brunch at the South Place Hotel

Turns out January was a month of firsts. So after my first Eggs Benedict in five years spent in London, I went to the South Place Hotel for my first Bangers and Mash.

I’ve been walking past 3 South Place on my way to work every day for over a year now and I’ve always been tempted to see its slick bar and dining room from the inside. Once you get in, the space is even more striking: dark décor and innovative artworks give the hotel a boutique feel, perfect for a business stay or a long and indulgent Bellini brunch… which is what I went for.

The 3 South Place Hotel Bellini brunch offers plenty of options: you can mix and match from the a là carte menu or go for the set menu (£22.50 for two courses, £27.50 for three). Add £15.00 to it and you’ll have bottomless Prosecco, Bellinis and Mimosas: the recipe for a perfect start to the weekend.

Brunch

I started my brunch with the best Bircher muesli I’ve ever had, made with berries and Granny Smith apple: incredibly fresh and just sweet enough, it matched surprisingly well with a Bellini and left me asking for more.

To continue my education in British cuisine I picked 3 South Place’s Cumberland sausage & mash with caramelised onion and sage gravy. Just like any dish on the brunch menu, the sausages are a classic with a twist that don’t disappoint.

It took me another Bellini to manage to fit in the waffles, the dessert we were both dying to try. I went for the banana and butterscotch waffles, tender and warm and perfect with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top, just in time for the break from the winter cold.

Other top options from the menu include the brioche French toast with poached eggs, mushrooms and red wine sauce and the Day Boat fish pie with a boiled egg on top. Both different takes on brunch classics, these starter and main were presented perfectly and tasted like heaven. img_3681

The atmosphere at South Place Hotel is at once classy, friendly and laid back. The staff is really knowledgeable and up for showing your around this incredible building. The hotel is the first, purpose-built hotel to open in the Square Mile in 100 years. It’s the only independent, luxury hotel in the City and the first hotel from restaurateurs D&D London, owners of Skylon in the Southbank Centre, Le Pont de la Tour at Tower Bridge, Bluebird Cafe on the King’s Road.

The Angler restaurant serves some of the finest seafood in London, whilst the Angler rooftop terrace is one of the most popular spots for al fresco eating and drinking in London in the summer. On the ground floor of the hotel, 3 South Place Bar & Grill is open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with DJs in the Bar most evenings and a late-night license.
