Sparkling jewellery cocktails at the Threadneedle Bar

You can buy designer jewellery… Or you can drink it. I chose the latter, trying the Theo Fennell inspired jewellery cocktails at the Royal Exchange‘s Threadneedle Bar.

Fresh of the Cocktails in The City success, the Threadneedle Bar overlooks the Royal Exchange’s Grand Café and offers old-time favourite drinks along with a new signature cocktail list paying homage to Jerry Thomas’ 1862 ‘Bartenders Guide’, the first ever mixology book published in the United States.

The Threadneedle Bar’s collaboration with the innovative class 1982 jeweller Theo Fennell started early this year. To celebrate the collaboration, bar Manager Sebastian Kasyna has created three bespoke cocktails drawing on its beautiful pieces of jewellery and the glamourous surroundings of The Royal Exchange for inspiration. The cocktails are:

  • Rosemary’s Sapphire Fizz: Fresh rosemary, sugar, Ruby Red grapefruit juice, gin and Prosecco (a tribute to Theo’s Peach & Purple Sapphire Empress Necklace).
  • Emerald Mine: Blue Curacao, Rum, Pineapple Juice and Coconut Cream served in a glass of crushed ice (a tribute to the Turtle Marine ‘Arts charm made from 18 carat yellow gold, tsavorite and diamonds)
  • Pot of Gold Cocktail: Whisky, Apricot brandy, chocolate bitters and Umechu choya (dedicated to the Theo Fennell classic, the Bee).

Priced at £10, these jewellery-inspired cocktails are a treat to enjoy while enjoying the surroundings of the marvellous Royal Exchange building.

A selection of bar food is also available with highlights including sharing plates such as Beillevaire French cheeses, fig compote and crackers or the Italian charcuterie board or main dishes of rare seared Yellowfin tuna nicoise, fine beans, fennel, potato, egg, olives and anchovy or Scotch 42 day aged ribeye steak with chips and béarnaise sauce.

The bar is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday to Friday and it’s the perfect place to let your hair down after a heavy week at work.
