London Things To Look Forward To In 2018

Ready to wave goodbye to 2017 but not sure what to expect from the new year? Here’s my list of London/UK things to look forward to in 2018. IT’S GONNA BE OUR YEAR GUYS I FEEL IT.

New Restaurant Openings

A New Vegan Destination in Peckham

I’m not quite sure if I’ve had more friends turn vegan or get engaged this year – what I’m sure is I’m not doing either. However, during my time Down Under I’ve grown to love fun, healthy vegan options and I’m always game for a new vegan restaurant opening. Naturally then, I can’t wait to try WILDFLOWER, an informal vegetarian and vegan canteen taking over Peckham in 2018.

Opened with a soft launch in December, WILDFLOWER is already there to give you that health kick you need after all that New Year’s Eve debauchery on 1st January 2018. And because it’s Peckham, the restaurant’s home will be an unused multi-story car park – the Peckham Levels – transformed into a creative hub of workspaces, workshops, studios and independent businesses, including WILDFLOWER.

Headed by chef Joseph Ryan of Hoi Polloi, Salon in Brixton and Peckham’s iconic summer rooftop spot Frank’s Bar, WILDFLOWER will serve breakfast, brunch and lunch every day.

Dining at WILDFLOWER will give you a unique south-facing view over an otherwise unseen aspect of Peckham Rye, five floors up the Peckham Levels. Plus, the restaurant doubles up as GHOSTNOTES by night, a music venue and late night bar serving crafted cocktails, London-brewed beer and a seven-day programme of live shows and parties. What’s not to like?

Zia Lucia Brook Green

Independent pizzeria Zia Lucia will be opening a new restaurant in Brook Green in late January 2018, following the success of the first Zia Lucia opened in Islington in 2016.

Founders Claudio Vescovo and Gianluca D’Angelo will bring Zia Lucia’s unusual 48-hour slow-fermented doughs and Italian community flair to West London. Plus, to match the inevitable “New Year, New You” trend starting every January, the pizzeria will offer a limited edition, green vegetable dough for the whole first month of launch. Named after their new neighbourhood, the ‘Brook Green Dough’ will be a healthy winter addition to a constantly evolving pizza selection.
All wood-fired pizzas at Zia Lucia Brook Green will be priced from £7-£11 so if saving up is your New Year Resolution, your wallet won’t hate you for it. You will be able to pick among four types of dough (traditional white flour, earthy wholemeal, crisp gluten free and a dramatic vegetable charcoal black base). Toppings range from Italian favourites such as nduja, spianata salami, truffle honey, burrata, rich gorgonzola and vegan butternut squash cream.

New Destinations

Opening of Raasay Distillery’s Accommodation

I may have given up on cocktails and most straight-up spirits, but whisky isn’t one of them. With the Raasay Distillery now producing the island’s first legal spirit, R&B Distillers is about to welcome visitors to Raasay to witness whisky making in action. They have converted the island’s former hotel, Borodale House, from a derelict Victorian building into luxurious accommodation with some of the finest views any Scottish distillery can offer.

Usually only available as part of a 10-year membership to Raasay Distillery’s Na Tùsairean Club members, R&B are now offering guests to stay over for a night for the cost of £250. As part of the room price, guests will enjoy a complimentary one-year membership, a bottle of Raasay While We Wait single malt whisky as well as many other perks. The accommodation will open on 8th January 2018. Can I get a ticket to Scotland? Like, now?
