There’s a new market in town, and it’s as hip as its East London ‘rivals’: here’s what goes down at Druid Street Market, South East London’s freshest street food spot.
Open every Saturday from 9am to 4pm, Druid Street Market occupies a tiny fraction of Bermondsey’s Druid Street with stalls selling fresh produce, innovative new products and street food along the street’s arches. London’s newest – and coolest – market to date, it was the perfect location to spend my Saturday morning in the sun.
Needless to say that the highlight of the market for me was Blutop Ice Cream‘s ice cream cookie sandwiches. I chose it as my breakfast of champions, picking the beer + chocolate pretzel ice cream flavour in between a chocolate chip and a cinnamon cookie, topped with pecans and salted caramel.
Blutop sells all options: same cookies, mix and match cookies, mix and match toppings and the like. Try the burnt toast + jam flavour for a truly English take on the ice cream, or go for the classic Madagascar vanilla and go crazy with Lucky Charms or pretzel toppings.
But Druid Street Market is more than just ice cream: gourmet peanut butter, various sweets and cakes as well as Black Box Coffee and Decatur‘s oysters make this corner of Bermondsey the best way to spend your Saturday morning. Â
Still don’t have enough? Walk five minutes and you’ll get to nearby Maltby Street Market, in Ropewalk, where you can enjoy The Cheese Truck‘s goat cheese, rosemary butter, honey and walnut cheese toastie or Teala‘s fresh Mango Cooler iced tea.Â
