Saatchi Gallery Tea

As if Chelsea wasn’t pretty enough, I’ve now found out you can have a Champagne afternoon tea while enjoying the sight of the Saatchi Gallery’s garden, after a stroll around the main exhibitions.
Gallery Mess is the Saatchi Gallery’s restaurant and café. Its afternoon tea menu includes a selection of British sandwiches like the classic cucumber and cheese, coronation chicken or salmon and cheese, as well as warm scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream.

It’s the selection of sweet treats however that will make you the happiest. The lemon macaroons challenge even the best ones I’ve had in France. The nut chocolate buttons are an interesting take on a normal British snack. The lavender and black chocolate brownie doesn’t disappoint and the fruit and chocolate mousse is the perfect way to end the tea on a lighter, fresher note.

Do you have a kid with you? Fear not. Kids can enjoy Gallery Mess’s tea as much as adults – and not because of the Champagne. The restaurants offers the option of the Origami Tea menu to the little ones, featuring a babyccino and a cake decorating kit.

The Origami Tea comes with a colour palette including ham and cheese sandwiches, the chocolate button which also features in the adults’ tea, an almond and chocolate brownie and a chocolate marshmallow to decorate with granola, meringues, compote and sprinkles.
